                                                                                         Chirrapunjee - The wettest place in the world
 
 
Cherrapunjee also called Sohra is a must visit place for all tourists. Not only is it known to have most downpour throughout the year but also was a control centre of Khasi during the British Rule. In a year, the rainfall recording can go as high as 12500mm and was confirmed as the wettest place in the world. 
 
                                        
 
Visiting Meghalaya most suitable time is March through July. The weather is exceptionally pleasant.
April and May are also a good time to visit. The weather is among other things is okay. Accommodation in Meghalaya is diverse and there is something for everyone.

Travelling to and around Meghalaya is hassle free. The means of transport are many and easy to
get.
 
Shillong is the major Airport. The flights to Meghalaya are uncommon. Guwahati airport is the closest; from there buses and cars are available to Shillong.
 
Railway is not available in Meghalaya. Guwahati is the closest rail station linking it to the other main cities.
 
Road transport is the most utilized means in Meghalaya. Over the monsoon, due to the rough terrain and monsoon climate, road the transport remains to be the choice.  
 
Taxis and Sumos are also available. The full taxi could be hired or shared with other travelers.
There is no pleasure without pains and so is Meghalaya;
Although the rains in Meghalaya make the waterfall a tourist attraction transport around is awful.
Be aware of disease like Meningococcal, Typhoid, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis A, B, yellow fever and Rabies. It is recommendable to take prevention measures.
In the Jainta hills, there is danger of falling rocks, snakes and hostile pits.
 
                                        
 
Due to the continuing heavy downpour, there is a danger of flooding, stagnant water related diseases and poor farming methods.
The events and festivals of Meghalaya are an indication of their lifestyle and customs. Just a few of their events and festivals are Shad Suk Mynsiem, Beh-Dien-Khalmforms and Wangala.
 
There is a celebration every now and then throughout the year mostly marked by folk song, music and dance.
In the Guinness Book of World Records, Cherrapunjee is recorded as the wettest place in the world where rainfall is not measured in millimeters but in feet. Further, it is the home of the highest waterfall in the world, the Nohkalikai Falls.
