Djenne city began in 800 AD and one of the earliest sub-Saharan in Africa. Its perfectly located on the Niger Delta and fairly close to downstream of Timbuku. The city is a natural hub for commercial purposes and tourism. It is also an Islamic learning centre.
                             
                        

Best time to tour around Djenne

August and September are the best times to travel around in Djenne. This is after the rainy spells      when Djenne changes into an island.

Mali transportations are prompt and well organized. Mali is linked to other parts of Africa and other intercontinental spots. Mali’s transportation is made of airways, railways, roadways and waterways. The railway connects Mali to Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Senegal and Mauritania.
The road links Mali to trans-Sahara main road to Algeria and Nigeria. Water transport is also efficient in port of Dakar in Senegal. Often ferry services on the Niger are accessible from July to January.
Mali’s main airport is Bamako Senou International Airport. On a weekly basis, there are 29 departures and arrivals. Local flights serve the area destinations.
Taxis and motorbikes are also an effective and easy way to travel around Mali. Walking among the tourists and locals is also common encouraged by scenic backgrounds.

What could go wrong?

Taking pictures is highly restricted mainly governmental buildings and people unless you have permission.
Digging from archeological sites is illegal, particularly in the Niger River Valley vicinity.
Avoid buying drinks from vendors along the way. Buy treated drinking water in small plastic bags fron Bamako. Bissap is a local drink made from boiling hibiscus leaves and its good to drink on it own.
Sweet milk and yogurt are also sold by the roadsides. It is advisable to boil milk prior to drinking to avoid tuberculosis infections.

Sing, dance and have fun the Mali way

Buryeong Mud Festival takes place yearly over summer time and attracts more than 2.2 million tourists. The mad is gotten from Boryeong flats then trucked to Daecheon beach where it is the center place for the mad experience. Mad Experience takes two weeks. The momentum is on the last weekend on the second weekend of July.
Mali is an Islamic nation. Radhaman is a holy month of fasting and ends with Ei….and  marked by feasting.
Other festivals that attract large number of tourists are mud pool, mudslides, mud prison and mud skiing competitions. They are usually at the Harbor of Daecheon Sea. It is extremely lively with live music and dancing competitions.
There is also a small market alongside the sea selling cosmetics made of mad from Boryeong. Massage and acupuncture are done from healthy and beauty clinics.
The festival is crowned by an explosion of large fireworks
Djenne, weather, culture and the landscape is very fascinating. It’s worthy even just strolling around.
